The MOB is Coming!

Congratulations, your little girl is getting married!  Being the mother of the bride (MOB) is not an easy role as your daughter and your future son-in-law probably have their own vision of their wedding ceremony and it may differ dramatically from yours.

Here are some tips which may help avoid many “animated” discussions with the happy couple and will ensure that your daughter’s Special Day is truly amazing…for both of you.

  • First and foremost, be a warm listener, confidant, cheerleader and a source of support for your daughter. You want to help the couple with the planning but at the same time you want them to enjoy the entire process. So unless asked be careful that you don’t take over. Just offer assistance, if asked.
  • Ask your daughter what you can do to help. Discuss the wedding budget and what you are willing to pay for; help manage the guest list, plan a shower, make phone calls; manage the invitations and RSVPs, etc.  Just be available to help with any tasks that are worrying the couple, should they ask for your help
  • Embark on an adventure to help your daughter find the wedding dress that will transform her into a stunning bride and delight at how beautiful your daughter is. This will require the patience of Job and the determination of Steven Jobs. Be honest, yet supportive. Also let the bride help choose the style and the look she wants for you.
  • Help your daughter and her groom select a venue and suppliers based on their wedding style, budget and vision. Your experience will definitely come in handy. Today it’s all about choosing the right venue that matches the couple’s expectations, selecting the right suppliers to create their dream wedding and of course sharing thoughts about the theme they have chosen. Help with decisions on which supplier to book but try desperately not to interfere. After all, this isn’t your day

Your daughter is asking for your opinion and possibly for some advice on helping her plan her wedding day. But remember, she is about to become someone’s wife, she is no longer your little girl, so walk carefully and speak softly when offering your suggestions.

Creating Your Memories – Just be Sure!

Authored by: Rinette Emerson

Photographs are one of the most precious mementos of your wedding celebration, so you want to be selective when booking your wedding photographer.

Here are a few things you might want to consider before signing the contract:

Is the person experienced at photographing weddings? Does he/she do this for a living or is it just a hobby? Review the photographer’s portfolio by visiting their website and reading couples’ reviews online. Don’t hesitate to ask for a list of references from the photographer and check them out personally.

Arrange a face-to-face meeting to see if there is some “chemistry” between you. You’re looking for someone you can work with to capture memories of your Special Day. Bottom line… is this photographer someone who listens, looks professional, is creative and makes you feel comfortable.

Since budgeting is a big part of the planning process, does the photographer offer packages that are within your budget? Check out the different packages offered to see if they are in line with your expectations and your budget. If this person is not within your budget, is s/he worth the price difference?

Finally, make sure you understand the contract and what you’re getting, including reprints and albums. How long will it take to get your proofs back and your finished album? Just be sure that you have no doubts about what your package includes when you sign on the bottom line.

Ben and Alyssa

Hi Richard,

Alyssa and I want to thank you for everything you did to make our wedding day perfect.
We couldn’t be happier with your role on our Special Day.

We greatly appreciate your ability to gauge the mood and act accordingly. We have received a number of positive comments regarding our ceremony. On a very stressful day it was nice not to worry about the ceremony.

Overall, we had a great experience with Enduring Promises. I know it isn’t very helpful, but we can’t think of a single thing we would have done differently.

Thanks for all your help in the build-up and on our wedding day.

Hi Jim!

You were very prompt in responding to our questions and very easy to work with.  You provided great suggestions on how the ceremony should flow.  You were very good at organizing the group during the rehearsal, even when we were late (sorry again!).

You provided little tidbits of what to do and not to do which helped with capturing some great photos.  My guests made a point to tell me that you made them feel at ease at the ceremony and it was lovely.  You have a great sense of humour which made the ceremony more comfortable for everyone.

The online wedding template was great to help us build our ceremony.  Lots of great options and with the ability to save online, share back and forth, it was really easy to use.  It was also nice to be able to print our ceremony and to make notes as we were developing it.

Enduring Promises was the fastest to respond to my initial inquiry and reasonably priced.  The company has great reviews online and nice to work with.

Again Jim, thank you for being a part of our ceremony.
