We are constantly asked if Enduring Promises require couples to attend premarital classes before we officiate their wedding. Our response is always the same; no, but we believe that some premarital classes are a wonderful investment in your marriage. With all the differences couples face in terms of personality, background, beliefs, dreams, etc., it’s a wonder that healthy relationships exist at all!

Most couples wrongly blame in-laws, finances, the kids or sex as the source of the challenges they face in their marriage. Actually, the number one reason for a breakdown in a relationship is the result of poor communications. How do you communicate with your spouse, and how does your partner communicate their love to you? After all, how you communicate with one another becomes an integral part of your relationship.

While men and women communicate differently, they also listen differently. When men hear about issues, their first reaction is to try to fix the problem. Their spouse however, may just need to vent when she’s talking with her spouse; she simply wants him to listen. He offers ideas and solutions to the “assumed” problem, while she wants to just share. They both want to share, just in different ways.

After the cake is cut and the honeymoon is over, most couples just assume that they’re headed for marital tranquility. Hopefully, that will be the case for all couples, but we know that’s not reality. Happiness can be found in marriage in a variety of ways. Learning and developing communication skills can aide in recognizing and addressing challenges before they become overwhelming. And a good premarital course can do that for you and your partner.

As always, follow along at our blog.  We post lots of content that will help you create your perfect, hopefully stress-free, wedding day.
