Our Wedding Officiants are often asked how couples can visually show their love and commitment to one another in their wedding ceremony. Until recently, the Unity Candle Ceremony has received the majority of the attention in this area. Although this has been a tradition with many different cultures, once the candle has been blown out, there is no permanent reminder of the union or the significance of the ceremony.
To overcome this, many couples have begun incorporating a Sand Blending Ceremony as part of their wedding celebration. This ceremony symbolizes the joining of two lives into one, with their individually coloured sand blended as one in a vase. And because the vase can be displayed for years, the symbol of the couple’s love and unity is an ever present reminder of the commitment and vows they shared on their wedding day. As such, the Sand Blending Ceremony and the unity vase can be remembered and treasured forever.
The Sand Blending Ceremony adds a very personal and intimate element to any wedding ceremony and there is no limit to the number of participants. Enduring Promises recently had the honour of facilitating this ceremony with a couple and their three children. The individual containers of sand represent the individual people participating in the ceremony. The sand was poured and blended into a unity vase to create a unique pattern – as unique as the new relationship and love for each another. The sand in the vase represents a new entity, one that has been changed forever and can never be separated. The lives and the love of the participants are intertwined and blended together as one. The end result is as unique as the love it represents.
