Be Creative and Save!

A wedding reception that is unique, personal and reflective of your personalities doesn’t have to cost a fortune and place a financial burden on you. There is no need to spend a ton of money when you can show off your do-it–yourself skills and pocket the difference.

Location and timing is the key when planning your wedding reception. Depending on the size of your guest list, there are many options for low-cost or nominal-cost locations. These include party rooms, local and provincial parks, your own back yard or that of a friend. There are also many venues where the ceremony, reception, DJ and photographer are packaged in one all-inclusive price.

Another great way to significantly reduce cost is to plan your wedding during the off season or on any day other than Saturday. A week day wedding can save you as much as 25%.

Limit the guest list. Limiting your guest list as much as possible will drastically reduce reception costs. Most caterers, restaurants and banquet halls charge per-person, so the difference between 100 guests and 150 will be significant.

Food can take a huge bite out of your wedding budget, so do your homework and consider all your options.  You may want to consider a buffet instead of a sit-down meal, a brunch or luncheon instead of a multi-course meal, a Dessert or a Hors D’ouevres, a Tea or Coffee, or a Salad Reception.  The possibilities are endless.

Wedding attire. Investigate cost-conscious options include buying a “pre-owned” gown, wear a designer suit purchased through a discount retailer or department store, rent a gown or check out an online auction to find your dress and/or the dresses of your bridal party.

Flowers and decorations. Look for a location that is already decorated and you’ll see big savings. If this is not possible, to set a stylish mood without incurring significant costs or creating much work for you, consider doing the flowers and decorations yourself. Look at seasonal and locally grown flowers in order to reduce flower costs.

Invitations are definitely an area where you can show off your resourcefulness and creativity – and save substantial dollars in the process. Consider printing your wedding invitations on your computer – with today’s free online programs, no one will know the difference.  Plan to email “a newsletter” or make use of a free personal online wedding website in order to communicate things  to do in the area (hotels, restaurants, and events) and other various help-tips for your out-of-town guests.

When planning your wedding, don’t focus on the lavishness of the event, rather on creating a special day that will be remembered by you, your family and guests long after the cake is eaten, the music has stopped and the bills are paid.

Hi Jim,

Jason and I have consistently discussed how much we enjoyed your presence on the day of the wedding. You made us both feel so at ease, you ensured our wishes were fulfilled and you went above and beyond to make our family feel respected and special.

The Enduring Promises online ceremony template was fantastic! Next to you, of course, it was the reason we selected Enduring Promises to officiate our wedding ceremony. The ceremony was one of the few aspects of our wedding day that didn’t come easily to us at first until we saw how helpful the template was – we loved it. The wide range of suggestions was very helpful and fit nicely with our personally written elements.

Enduring Promises was quick to respond and was very helpful whenever we asked for assistance. We have recommended you twice already and will continue to do so again and again.

There is nothing we would have changed in our ceremony and you were such a wonderful part of our day.
